In article <457@ringwood.Morgan.COM> I write: >I have started seeing this error message on my 40meg >PLUS HARDCARD: > 1701(B) Controller Error >At this point, the harddisk 'light' signal in the top >right (mimics the LED) is on solid. Alt-Ctrl-DEL doesn't >help. A power off/on is required. > I neglected to add this information (sorry): The message is: 1701(b) Controller #0 error It seems to happen during 'copy' or 'pkunpak' type activities. It also makes rather funny clicking noises at the time. One person suggested I call PLUS (the manufacturer), which I will since the PC had a 10meg for 3-4 years and last Jan I upgraded to the 40 meg after taking out the 10 meg. This problem only started happening since 10/1 and doesn't happen every time I use it. I don't think its a virus. My only thought was that perhaps I'm readind some weird pattern of bits and this is fooling the controller into thinking its end of sector or some such thing. can any one else provide me with advice? Thanks to those who have already responded. please email me direct at: joec@morgan.com
