The AHA-1540A/1542A SCSI Host adapter (Adaptec) will co-exist with a
ST-506/RLL/ESDI controller, without anything special needing to be done.
The only caveat is the SCSI device is the slave device.  Also, without
drivers you can only have one additional hard disk attached to the
host adapter, as the INT13H AT BIOS spec doesn't allow for more than
2 hard drives in a system.  So if you want to add more than 2 total
hard drives in this scenario, you would need the ASW-1110 software package
for the AHA host adapter.
