Blade-Runner is the latest Harrison Ford vehicle and is set in Los Angeles in the year 2019. Ford plays a detective whose job is to track down genetic replicants ie. humans produced by genetic engineering and eliminate them. The term Blade-Runner is the name of the post Ford has. In the movie Ford is called back from retirement to track down four genetic replicants and kill them. The movie seems to be a throwback to the forties. Forties fashions are apparently on a revival and so is the dialogue in the movie. Ford does voice- over for scenes in the style of Sam Spade. The plot is boring and the movie is too slow-paced. The view of the future is extremely interesting but there is no development of how society got that way. The best part of the movie in my view was not the story but the sets. The opening sequence is incredible. The vehicles and the buildings are much better than the people. Ridley Scott (he did Alien) has produced a rather depressing view of what the future could be and his attention to detail is incredible. The buildings all have believable advertising including Atari, TDK, and Budwieser signs. In my opinion the movie is worth seeing for the view of the future but not for the acting or plot. However I would not see it for the $5 it cost up here. Try to catch it for some reasonable cheap price. Bruce Freeman University of Toronto ...!decvax!utzoo!utcsstat!bjf
