[comp.sys.ibm.pc] 3.5" floppy drives for AT compatibles

yarko@perle.UUCP (Yarko Matkiwsky) (10/27/89)

I am using an AT clone (VLSI chip set) and have attached a 3.5" floppy
drive to it. I use setup to specify this as the A drive and my 5.25"
1.2Meg floppy as the B drive. I boot DOS 4.0 for the 40 meg hard disk.

My problem is that I can do a "dir" on a floppy in the 3.5" (720K) drive
but when I remove that disk and put in another different disk and do a
"dir" the directory of the first disk is read. It is as if I didn't remove
the first disk.

Any Ideas!? I have swapped the 5.25" and the 3.5" floppies around and the
problem still remains on the 3.5" drive. The 5.25" works fine.

We had a similar problem where I used to work. There may be a jumper
on the drive which needs to be reset. I can't remember which one it is, but,
with any luck, it'll be obvious.
