Has anybody used Digital Research's GEM Artline in anger?. I've got a problem with it. If I do a drawing in GEM Draw & print said file out on my HP LaserJet II I get a perfect printout. Now I now run Artline & read the same file (which now makes it un-readable by GEM Draw because of the changes made to the .GEM format to support bezier(?) curves). I now print the same file out on the LaserJet. If you compare the two print-outs, the text on the Artline one has got sort of ragged edges ie the curves to the text chars are not smooth. The GEM Draw one is perfect. I know that Artline uses .AFF (a postscript subset?) files for its FONTS whereas GEM Draw used .B30 files. I would have thought that the quality should be the same? Has anybody else had this experience? Oh I installed both packages as per the Manual. Its annoying because Artline can do all sorts of things with Text chars but the printout is lousy. This older format is still readable by programs that have bezier support. >Now I now run Artline & read the same file (which now makes it >un-readable by GEM Draw because of the changes made to the .GEM format >to support bezier(?) curves). Undocumented rule #1: GEM Draw .GEM files != GEM Artline .GEM files;-< Any action of importation should be regarded as just that. There is no reverse migration;-( >I now print the same file out on the LaserJet. Question: Are you using a Bitmap LJ II driver or a Soft Font LJ II driver? Suggestion: If you do not have a great deal of text, try editing the text and see if any garbage has introduced by Artline. Suggestion: Change the font to Bit-Stream-Charter. This is by far the best font choice under Artline. The best [default] font choice under Draw Plus is probably Swiss or Dutch (depending on your preference). >If you compare the two print-outs, the text on the Artline one has got >sort of ragged edges ie the curves to the text chars are not smooth.
