I have had success in re-inking my Deskjet ink cartridge. I used Shaefer Skrip Jet Black fountain pen ink (approx. $2/ounce) and a syringe with a 21 gauge 2" needle. An 18-20 gauge needle would work also as would a shorter needle, as long as it is at least 1 1/2". It seems like the cartridge (through trial and error) can hold approx. 20cc of ink, be careful not to overfill it -- it can get messy. While the ink I used works well, the graphics don't look as good with it. One line per pass comes out a little lighter then the rest, it isn't at all noticiable with text. It's probably either some clogging in the cartridge or because I accidently touched something to the ink jet openings. As for inks, good luck has been reported with Mont Blanc Blue-Black ink, but it is much more expensive than the Shaefer so I haven't tried it. Don't use any Quink inks (I forget who makes it) as it has quick-drying agents which will clog the ink jets. Good Luck! -Rudi Halbright rh1m@andrew.cmu.edu Dept. of Social & Decision Sciences Carnegie Mellon
