The device that Khan was using to set off the Genesis device was seen earlier in the movie. Dr. Marcus and David were standing near it, mentioning something about "cannot squeeze any more information into the data banks". This unit was sitting beside the Genesis device in the Genesis cave ( or rather the cave made by Starfleet engineers ) and was beamed up at the same time as the device itself. -- Dave
