[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Good Vt100 emulator

noble@shumv1.uucp (Patrick Brewer) (10/27/89)

Does anyone out there know of a good VT100 emulator? I am looking
for something that is low cost or free. All I want is use of all keys,
function keys, cursor, keypad. I have seen some that offer keypad keys
but not function keys. I think there must be one some were that sends
all the codes that an actual VT100 would.

I don't need upload & download capabilities. I have other
communication software that I can use for that. I am looking only for
true keyboard emulation. Haveing it all in one package would be nice but
I'm not that picky.

I have tried a few "test drive" versions of programs and used
Qmodem for a little while before giving up on them. I thought they were
too bulky (over a meg for qmodem and files on my hard disk) for no more
than what they did.

If you know of a good program and where I could get a copy
please let me know. Or if you know how I could get qmodem to work with
true keyboard emulation too.

MsKermit, Procomm, and Telix have these features. Of these MsKermit
is the most configurable. You can get any of them by anonymous ftp
from your site. If you also want a ready MsKermit VT100 keyboard,
get /pc/ts/tskerm20.arc as well. If you want Procomm information
and layouts then get /pc/ts/tspfon29.arc. (If you are not familiar
with anynymous ftp, that is the File Transfer Program, please
consult your system manager.)

PC-VT is VT100/102 Terminal Emulator for the PC and PC Clones. It
emulates 99% of the functions of the VT10x series terminals. Works
great talking to VMS or UNIX hosts.

You can get a copy from my BBS at 619-549-3927 which will answer
with a USR 9600 HST at 1200, 2400, and 9600 baud. You
can call and download PC-VT v9.0d with your first login.

|MsKermit, Procomm, and Telix have these features.

I have not used MsKermit, but Procomm and Telix are only partial
emulations.

Ideal Terminal from Don Harbaugh, 771 Blanchard Way, Sunnyvale,
CA 94087 (408) 737-9130 is a shareware product offering built in
Xmodem, scrollback, and a buncha other stuff, and it is a >full<
implementation of the VT100 and VT52 terminals. I am quite
please with it - we are using it now as a local terminal to our
Xenix machine.

For your $20 you also get Turbo C source, so you can customize it
still further, if that is your desire.
