[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Chips by mail

dgs@swdev.Waterloo.NCR.COM (David G. Schwartz) (11/06/89)

OK all you 'sys'ies, I'm going to upgrade my '386-20 with a second meg of
memory and a '387 FPU. In perusing the November _Computer_Shopper_ the best
price I see is from a place called:

	EROS (256K-100 SIMM = $40)
	148-39 61 St., Road (80387-20 = $335)
	Flushing, NY 11367

I would like to hear opinions on the advisability of mailordering these
parts from Canada and especially from anyone who has dealt with these folks.

I know all about the rate of exchange and duties and such but would also
like to know if the U.S. credit card laws will help me, a l'il ol'
Canadian, if I get stung by these guys.

The reason I want to do mailorder is that local prices are slightly more
than double the above and I had a good experience ordering a printer and
modem from USA-Flex (still came in about 30% below local prices).
IYHO (In _Your_ Humble Opinions) would the ease of returning bad parts
purchased locally be worth the >100% surcharge?

Thanks in advance to all who respond.
