[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Utility to monitor COM port activity

marcuse@cspi.com (Michel Marcuse) (11/08/89)

Hello there.

I recently purchased an internal modem which is also capable of
performing outgoing fax only operations. Problem is, the software supplied is
very limited in functionality. I called the manufacturer to find out what
was needed to configure the modem for Fax operation (it was not documented
in the manual) and was told plainly that that was proprietary, and that it
was not a supported feature. The only thing I got out of them was that it
uses a superset of the Hayes command set. The modem is called an MCT-FAXM,
manufactured by Prometheus and sold by JDR Microdevices.

Has anyone hacked this modem and could tell me what the commands are?
(This board is fairly recent, so I am no too hopeful about this :-( )

Now, my second idea is to monitor all communications between
the supplied software and the modem, which is a COM port with some utility
(probably TSR?) that would log all communications to a file on the disk.
This utility should not be just a "redirection" utility, since both the
modem and the software should still receive the commands/responses.

Could anyone point me to such a utility (preferably PD) ?

	Thanks in advance.

Disclaimer: I have no afiliation with Prometheus or JDR.
Disclaimer^2: In my job, I am not expected to have opinions anyway,
so there is no way that my employer would assume responsibility
              for them.
