[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Everex ev-653 adapter in Hercules emulation mode problem

chu@ames.arc.nasa.gov (Susie W. Chu) (11/08/89)

My sytem is a 286 IBM At clone running DOS 3.0. It has an
Everex EV-653 Micro Enchancer graphics adapter and a NEC Multisync
color monitor. There is a chinese word processing software need
the system in Hercules monochrome mode.
I use the utility ev-653 version 1.0 (Feb,1987) from Everex came
with the hardware.
I tried
evega on
egmode 5
then get into chinese system, the display is screwed up. It
looks every row of text is chopped into 3 subrows and displayed
about 8 column shifted to each other, look like this
               ---------------------------------------------------------------
         ---------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------
So the display is just garbage and useless.

I am so confused with Everex manual. I says it includes software
to emulate the IBM Color Graphics and the Hercules Graphics. But
its evega program does not have an argument to select one of the two
emulations. I tried "evega half on" or "evega half on", it make no
  difference.
Th manual also says " In order to emulate Hercules and CGA modes,
the Micro Enchancer needs one hardware-selected interrupt level"
I don't understand what it mean one hardware-selected interrupt.
Its default set is "NMI", I tried to set to "IRQ2" and then
  evega irq2 on
  egmode 5
This doesn't solve the problem, it even introduces a problem
I have to re-adjust the monitor otherwise the screem is just
  jump and unstable.
Anyway, I need help. Please help.
