There is a version of TETRIS for the PC available via anonymous FTP from grape.ecs.clarkson.edu, in directory /f/uploads. The file is called TETRIS.ZIP, and contains CGA and EGA versions, as well as a memory resident version. I have a Hercules compatible monitor, and can run the CGA version if I use one of the available CGA emulators first. Hope this is useful. Richard Stanton

It appears, as best I can tell, to be a pirated copy of the commer- cial TETRIS program. I got rid of my copy, and I would urge others to do the same. For a legitimate, free TETRIS-like program, try "/c/bin3/nyet.zip" on grape.ecs.clarkson.edu (anonymous FTP). I picked up NYET some time back, and it is quite challenging (but doesn't have the nice pictures). -- Rich Wales <wales@CS.UCLA.EDU> // UCLA Computer Science Department 3531 Boelter Hall // Los Angeles, CA 90024-1596 // +1 (213) 825-5683 "Mr. Scott, since we are here, your statement is not only illogical, but unworthy of refutation."

Recent talk has alluded to the fact that there is a pirated version of TETRIS going around (in fact, there is, because I've seen it available on many bulletin board systems). Well, one of the many hybrids, EGAINT, is available free, as in gratis (it's distributed under the GNU General Public License). The author wants no money...if one feels like they should shell out some cash, he suggests that they donate it to a worthwhile charity, such as the Red Cross. Rumor has it that the author was working on allowing users to load GIF-format images into the background, something which is mildly more attractive than those low-resolution caricatures of the Soviet Union. You can get it at grape.ecs.clarkson.edu in the bin4 directory or by calling The Odyssey at (201) 984-6574 (more recent versions are available via the latter...tell them Eric sent you).
