[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Phoenix BBS/Novell

I am in need of the assistance of someone running a PHOENIX based
bulletin board system. I would appreciate EMAIL from anyone with
  experience on this system.

What I have is Novell SFT 2.15 network onto which I want to be running a
PHOENIX bbs. During test cycles I have encountered a very severe I/O
error. The error happens whenever PHOENIX attempts to write to the
network drive, such as updating the users list, callers list, or uploaded
files, etc. It does not seem to have a problem reading from the drive.

My first thought is that perhaps PHOENIX is using bios I/O which is
usually bad news on a Novell network. I believe that the GeneSys Project
would have indeed coded the bbs in using bios calls to enhance
performance, but then that may be the same thing keeping this situation
  in turmoil.

I have tried several different options:
  1) I boot the network, move PHOENIX to a RAM (VDISK) drive, and the I/O
operates fine, until it writes to the network.

  2) Boot network, Move PHOENIX to a work station and use the DOS hard drive
in the same manner as the RAM drive. This works the same as option 1
when attempting to write the network drive (where uploads/downloads
     are kept).

I want to run under a network so that I can perform updates, maintenance,
and other bbs related functions without bringing the bbs down. Also, I
want to use the server as the PHOENIX operator since it will sit idle
at times. This would give the server a purpose other than being a monitor
machine. (Oh, I'm running non-dedicated.) Plus, with large drives I won't
be limited in download capacity. I don't want to use PHOENIX on a large
drive partitioned into four-five 30 meg drives. That's rediculous.

Any help in this situation, any advice, or any other options would be
  greatly appreciated. Just EMAIL!
