I'm going to go against polarized opinion and rate Blade Runner as Middle-of-the-Road. I don't fall into Don Chan's category of a ST II fan - it's just that having a movie be different isn't enough (or a requisite) to make it good. It is refreshing to see director Ridley Scott try various techniques but too many of them fail. In particular, Harrison Ford's narration left me cold. He seems to have many of the traits needed to be a fine actor but if Blade Runner is indicative, he won't put Rod Sterling out of a job. I liked the sets of Blade Runner and I liked the cinematography. However, the plot just didn't contribute. I think the fault there must lie with Scott. Blade Runner is yet another example of what I think is wrong with movies today. Of all the (artistic) talents needed to produce good movies, directing is the one which is most affected by the slow pace of moviemaking. How can these people learn what works if the only direct one film every other year? I applaud Scott for being different and I would guess he'll produce better movies in the future. If you're discriminating, you may want to wait for something better from him. Bruce McLean - eiss!bam
