We have a H-P Vectra QS/16 (386) that we are going to upgrade to be able to run PC ANSYS. This means more memory, a large hard disk, and probably a tape backup unit. The CompuAdd catalog has what seems to be real good prices on a MiniScribe and CDC 320Mbyte ESDI hard drives. Any comments or opinions on which of these drives is better? Recommendations on other drives and ESDI controllers to go with it would also be welcome. I would also like recommendations on external tape backup units. Will they run off of the serial port so I can move it between different machines without having to buy an interface card for each machine? Naturally price will be a major factor in our decision. The best quality available at the low end of the price range for these items is probably what we are looking at. Thanks, Ken Burns Oregon Graduate Institute kburns@mse.ogc.edu
