[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Help with a drive controller

HELP!
I recently installed an additional 512K into my AT clone, a DTK
PTM-1000 running 6-10 Mhz. To get better access to the chip sockets,
I removed my disk drive controller, a Western Digital WD1003-RA2. Now
I am having trouble with one of my drives.

The hard drive is working perfectly, but my floppy drive isn't. When
I put a disk in the drive, the motor starts until I close the drive
door (I looked at it), which is fine, and the motor starts when I try
accessing the drive. However, I get a General Failure error when I
try to read, write, or do anything else with the drive. I have tried
several different 1.2M and 360K disks, and nothing different happened.
I've tried getting directories, accessing data, and booting from the
floppy drive. When I try booting, the computer realizes the (A:) drive
exists, it starts the motor and move the drive heads, and then boots
off (C:)! When I try reading or writing, the motor moves, but the
drive heads don't.

Please, anyone, help. I've just replaced the power supply, I can't
afford to spend much more on the computer.
Don't get the impression DTK makes bad computers. None of the DTK
boards have given me serious problems.

Thanks in advance.
