[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Looking for a '386

jdu@cbnewsd.ATT.COM (john.d.unruh) (11/20/89)

I am looking at upgrading my existing AT&T PC6300+. That machine is a
6 MHz '286 with 1 meg on board and 1 meg of expanded/extended memory and
a 80287. The problem with it is that it is NOT AT compatible, and this
confuses some software. Also, I may want to run the UNIX operating system
sometime in the future, and people who have done so on the + have not
reported great experiences.

I have heard about a motherboard replacement, but the price I have seen
is in the $2000 range (+-$200 depending on speed and memory). I am looking
for recommendations on either a less expensive upgrade that would fit into
my existing box, or for recommendations on a '386 system. Of course, if I
bought a new system, I could sell my existing one to cover part of the expense.

Thanks,
John Unruh
