Currently playing in Waterloo in German with English subtitles. Mini-review: Excellent acting and cinematography except for some of the water scenes which were clearly shot in a tank. This picture is a view of the 1941 U-boat war told from the German point of view and is very sympathetic to the navy crowd and very unflattering to the German High Command. Most enjoyable. Must see. Oscar for best foreign film? John Winterton.

A very impressive movie. The screen fairly smells of death and impending, relentless doom. Surely Das Boot is one of the greatest anti-war movies ever made. Be prepared to walk out of the theater with an acute sense of claustrophobia. --Bruce Parker BTL Piscataway

I found 'Das Boot' to be one of the best films I have seen recently. While I have heard complaints from people more knowledgeable than I about the special effects (miniatures in particular), it was very believable to me. The subtitles appeared to vanish as I got more wound up in the plot, although my college German may have contributed to that effect. The acting was great; the plot was gripping. I believe this is a must see film.
