[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Not so elusive NROFF

LC.YRS@forsythe.stanford.edu (Richard Stanton) (11/23/89)

Thank you everyone who responded to my request for information about NROFF.
Since much of the information came via e-mail, and several people also
e-mailed me to ask for any answers I got, I thought it would be worth
posting the results as I received them.

There is a version of NROFF (source code) on SIMTEL, in directory
pd:<MSDOS.TXTUTL> (or maybe FILUTL). I could not find anything in the
EDITOR subdirectory.

A version was recently posted to the group comp.sources.atari.

MKS:

MKS SQPS (SoftQuad Publishing System) is an enhanced derivative of AT&T
Document Writer's Workbench (DWB) version 2.2 (a.k.a. troff or ditroff).
It is available for MS-DOS and various flavours of UNIX. It includes
a previewer and line printer drivers. HP Laserjet and PostScript
drivers are also available.

Elan:

Elan Computer Group, Inc. sells a package called Eroff which is the AT&T
Documenter's WorkBench (DWB), including device independent troff,
nroff, tbl, eqn, pic, grap, macros, etc., plus bug fixes and
enhancements including bitmap graphics inclusion, printer code (including
PostScript) inclusion, and drivers for the HP LaserJet line of printers
and PostScript printers (an Imagen driver is also available). Automatic
HP Soft Font downloading is done for the LaserJets. Downloadable Adobe
PostScript fonts may also be used. Documents may be printed in either
portrait or landscape orientations. In landscape, multiple small pages
can be printed side-by-side on a single sheet.

DWB and the printer drivers are also available separately. All of this is
available on dozens of different UNIX machines and under MS-DOS.

There is also a $99 nroff-only package available for MS-DOS.

We also sell Elan/Express, an X11 based di-troff previewer which works
with Eroff or any standard di-troff. Our SunView based screen previewer
Eview/Sun is included with Eroff for Suns.

All of DWB 2.0 and Eroff's enhancements (except native printer code
inclusion) are supported by both Elan/Express and Eview/Sun.

Please write or call and ask for sales for more information.
