I never knew the whole song, but some other lines are: I don't care if it rains or freezes Long as I got my plastic Jesus Sitting on the dashboard of my car; You can buy them pink and pleasant Shine in the dark, they're phosphorescent, Take one with you when you travel far. I don't care if it's dark or scary Long as I got my Virgin Mary Sitting on the dashboard of my car.... [sorry, folks, that's all I know...] {philabs,cmcl2!rocky2}!cubsvax!peters Peter S. a slightly tardy reply: i believe the "plastic jesus on the dashboard" tune can be attributed to kinky friedman and the texas jewboys, early/mid 70's. kf is now twisted artist-in-residence at the lone star cafe in new york. yerz, chuck podaras ...ihnp4!houxa!czp

I recognize the song, but I can't come up with a definitive answer. It seems like something John Prine would do, but I can't find it on any of the albums of his that I have at home... Cheers, chris

[] Just came across this one. Sorry to answer late. The song you refer to, "Plastic Jesus", was sung lo these many years ago by Al Higgins out of New Orleans. I first heard it in the early 50s. I am looking at a copy of the lyrics from an old song book at this moment. It is a collection of folk songs from all over the world. Why this was considered a folksong I'll never know, but its there. Don't ask for the name of the book, the first and last sections are gone. This song is on page 140 of whatever book it is in. There are five verses here and the notes say that there are dozens more which are unprintable. T. C. Wheeler
