[comp.sys.ibm.pc] ST11R bios low-level format

eb2e+@andrew.cmu.edu (Eric James Bales) (11/29/89)

I have an ST138R hard drive which is controlled from a Seagate RLL
controller which has on board BIOS model ST11R. I would like to know
how to get the onboard program to do a low-level format of my hard
drive. The builder of my computer (IBM PS/2 Model 30 [8086]) did not
provide me with the documentation for either the drive or the
controller.
I know this can be done as I accidentally managed to do it the other
day, but I have not been able to reproduce whatever it is that is
necessary to force the card to do this.
I want to do this in order to adjust the interleave rate of my drive
and see what the optimum rate is for my setup as I am only getting
about 30 K transfer rate currently according to SPINTEST.
(i.e. is there another way to change the interleave rate?)
  Thank you...

Please respond directly to me and I will compile a summary if there
is sufficient interest.
