I enjoyed it; I'm quite amazed at how Allen seems to have mellowed out - there's a certain sense of finally being at peace with the world that he's been struggling against all his career. The other real surprise for me is that there almost seems to be a religious sense to some of the picture. The ending is certainly not the sort of stuff I've come to expect from New York's funniest existential neurotic, and the whole film seems enchanted with the richness of nature - of which sex is only a part. Once again, Gordon Willis' cinematography does wonders visually complementing (and complimenting) Allen's script and direction - this film rivals Manhattan for visual beauty. Hilarious but low-key: maybe Woody Allen's learned that he can get the same effect with less volume... Steve Hull decvax!hcr!tugs
