[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Tranfer Rates

scott@CIE.UOREGON.EDU (11/26/89)

What are the transfer rates for various hard disk formats on a
80286 or 80386 pc clone? Specifically, how fast can an MFM format
hard disk using a 1:1 16 bit controller transfer data? And the same
for an RLL and ESDI format hard disk, and any other formats if you
know of them. Usually such figures are given in bits/s or bytes/s.

All these are theoretical maximum values. Anything in excess of these
numbers are coming from a cache (either hardware or software) somewhere.

MFM 1:1 500KB/sec (Kilobytes/second)
RLL 1:1 750KB/sec
ESDI 10Mhz 1:1 1024KB/sec (10Mhz drives)
ESDI 15Mhz 1:1 1536KB/sec (15Mhz drives)
