Our university is on the ROLM phone system. Because of my concerns about wanting to use a modem and an answering machine, I insisted on having a direct dial-in analogue line. Unfortunately, it is only one line, and I'd like to do lots of things with it. Is it possible (i.e. is there software and hardware) to use this one line for everything under the sun? I'd like for it to recognize whether the incoming call is voice (in which case an answering machine could kick in after four rings), modem, in which case the host mode of the computer would kick in, or fax (in which case a receiving fax card (if there is such a thing that can both send and receive faxes from a pc) would receive the fax image and store it on hard disk). I realize this is asking for a lot. It would be very nice, though. Any recommendations? I don't need fancy voice-mail. Thanks. Please e-mail or post and I'll summarize. -- reply to jpalmer@uwovax.uwo.ca The Economics Institute for Journalists London, Ontario CANADA N6A 5C2 Voice: (519) 661-3533 FAX: 661-3292 ============================================================================== The New Economics: Overlapping Generalizations & Rationalized Expectorations
