This is a followup to the request I sent out regarding the hardware problems I had encountered with a Tandon Pac286. I got 5 responses total, one from an Ex-Tandon employee, one from a person that has 5 Pac286's (one system had some disk problems similar to mine), and THREE responses from Tandon itself. After some discussion with Matt Thomas of Tandon, regarding system configuration and yet another trip to the retail outlet, I've managed to get rid of the disk failures. While I was not able to pinpoint the cause of the problem, it seemed that the problem was a combination of some hardware, some software, and other things such as a potentially poor electrical supply. Of the responses from the people outside of Tandon, the consensus was that the hardware problems I've encountered were not common, and at this time I am inclined to agree. The hardware changes amounted to fixing the lower receptacle, going through 2 different 40mb DataPacs (the first was a "service" Pac, and the second was a new one), and purchasing a surge suppressor. The software changes made were in config.sys and had to do with what order the different device drivers were loaded. I've had the system running for over 5 days without a complaint, so I guess I've got it resolved for now. I want to thank Matt Thomas, Tom Friel and Glen Victor of Tandon for going the extra mile and taking the time to help me work out my problems. It's that kind of support that will keep me coming back to the same manufacturer. (By the way, if you guys ever go to work for another vendor, let me know so I can change what systems I buy. :-)) -- Jeff Troeger - Citicorp (+) TTI "Of all the things I've lost, 3100 Ocean Park Bl.
