Thanks to everyone who suggested how to turn off a modem's speaker. The solution seems to be to send ATM0 to turn it off, ATM1 to turn it back on. One person suggested using ATVi, where i = 0, 1 or 2 to control different levels of speaker output, but I could not get this to work. Richard Stanton pstanton@gsb-what.stanford.edu

To change volume, or loudness, it uses ATLn, where n has these values: 0 Low volume 1 Low volume (same as 0) 2 Medium volume (default) 3 High volume Hope this helps.... -- ***************************************************************************** * Internet: keating@rex.cs.tulane.edu * /== Tulane * * * Usenet: ...!pyramid!rex!keating * ==== Green * John * * Bitnet: cs6hecu@tcsvm * ====== Wave!! * Keating * * CIS: Hmmm... cantremember... * =========== * * *****************************************************************************

ATVi is a completely different command.
