[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Enhacements for Toshiba T1000?

km@mathcs.emory.edu (Ken Mandelberg) (12/09/89)

Are there any enhancements or speedups available for the
Toshiba T1000, other than the official RAM and disk stuff
from Toshiba?

For example is there a cpu speedup with a clock or cpu
change? Is there extended memory more economical than
the Toshiba offering?

Given how many of these they must have sold, I'm surprised
I haven't seen any one man companies specializing in
various enhancements. You can still see ads for such dealers
for PC Jr stuff.

Maybe I just don't look in the right place.

I have seen two enhancements to the standard T1000. I think both were
advertised in Computer Shopper. These are a backlit screen conversion
kit (which presumably voids any warranty), and a higher speed modem from
some third party source.

I am also interested in upgrades. To be specific a larger RAM disk. My
normal usage of the machine is to keep WordPerfect 4.2 and Procomm on the
RAM disk. I would, however, be much happier with WordPerfect 5.0 and
Procomm Plus, for compatibility with my office system. A 2MB RAMdisk
would be a big plus for me, particularly given the lack of a hard disk.
I notice that the new T1000SE is supposed to have an optional 2MB RAM
disk, though I have no idea whether it is compatible with the older
T1000.
