I feel that people who call ET a "boy and his dog" story either haven't seen it or saw it but ws prejudiced from the start by someone else. I saw it and found it was more of a "victorian wife of a sailor" story (Elliot=wife;ET=sailor;wife meets sailor and is disgusted,learns to love sailor, others disapprove of love for sailor,sailor is drafted, must go to war, wife is brokenhearted).} Then again, that's only an opinion.
