[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Compaq Trouble

kaminski@skybridge.scl.cwru.edu (Steve Kaminski) (12/16/89)

I have a Compaq Deskpro (XT compatible).

  STOP LAUGHING!

I have a Compaq Deskpro (XT compatible) which was running on Compaq DOS 3.10,
and I recently upgraded to MS (or IBM, I forget) DOS 3.30. Now:

  1) Under the old Compaq DOS, I ran Norton's SI (Advanced) and found that I
was running at 6.88MHz, thus 1.4 x (normal XT).
Now, when I run Norton under the new DOS, I find I am back down to
4.66MHz, and actually a little slower than a normal XT.
     WHY?
(The first thing that you want to say is that I was using some
software enhancements which sped up screen i/o, etc. But I
didn't change ANYTHING but the DOS.)

  2) There is a little light on the front of the computer which starts RED when
you turn it on. Under the Compaq DOS, it turns GREEN when the hard drive
has started the system. Under the new DOS, it remains RED. Ooh, I don't
     like this one bit!

I know I should call Compaq, or even simply RTFM, but the machine is not
mine, and I don't have any Fine Manuals to Read!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Either post or e-mail me at:
