Does anyone know of any programs that could run programs by time like cron on unix? I may be running it under desqview or some other pc multi-tasking environment. Thanks in advance! Mike Core 614-860-5138 cblpf!mpc

You can use it in a batch file to simulate a cron. It is really worthless on a single tasking machine, except for things like "download a file from a board after 11 pm." Hope this helps. One problem with timed-execution programs under DOS is that they can only execute programs when the machine is at the DOS prompt and the user hasn't typed anything, due to the single-tasking nature of DOS. If you have a Mountain tape drive, you can find AUTOSET and AUTORUN on your diskette; these are quite useful; however, they are quite definitely not PD or shareware. I know that isn't the only one out there, though; I'm pretty sure I once saw a few programs like that on a BBS. I also have a program called (I believe) cshell12, which is a shell that allows aliases, can switch the path character from \ to /, will display a clock on the screen while you're in it, has a screen saver, and will allow you to program it with events to execute at a given time. I've never tried using it for timed execution; however, if you'd like a copy (it's PD ... or perhaps shareware, but I think it's PD), mail me a note (and do it soon before I go home for Christmas). -- Stephen M.
