Last night a station here in Portland (after much ballyhoo) showed a 3D film ("Gorilla at large"); and there were very interesting aspects to it. The most unusual was that (without glasses) it was in color! Evidently they filmed it in color with two cameras, one with a blue filter and the other with a red filter. The 3D effect was quite good! I think that was because of two things: They broadcast a calibration frame beforehand so that we (I) could set my TV right, and the film itself resisted the urge to stick things out of the screen. The film itself was a turkey; which goes without saying. I have "Creature from the Black Lagoon" on VHS Video tape (from MCA Videocassette Inc.), and having seen it in a theatre as well, can say: Don't waste your money on the video tape. They screwed up the color so that "blue" became green, and there isn't any separation. (i.e. no 3D.) Adjusting my set didn't help. By the way, the glasses for "Gorilla at Large" were sold at local 7/11's, and proceeds went to our local Zoo, which I think was totally appropriate.
