[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Using Postscript printer with PC and Mac

sunil@oakhill.UUCP (Sunil Khatri) (12/19/89)

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone out yonder in PCland had any experience / ideas
about how to network a Postscript printer (NEC LC 890) with a PC AT and
a Mac SE 30. The aim is to be able to use the printer to print
files/graphics from both hosts.

Is there standard hardware available for this? How much would something like
that cost me? Ideas about where I may get this hardware? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Sunil

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I wouldn't try to run a PostScript
laser printer with both a PC and a MAC. The MAC software tends to load stuff
into the printer (to prep it) so that it can just send what it needs to the
printer. Sending PC PostScript files to the printer, may mess up that prep
code, or worse yet, end up removing it.

When you start swearing at the thing, just remember I warned you.
