Can someone give me the names of dot-matrix printers that offer very high-speed printing and multiple form support? I have a friend who needs to print both invoices and accounting reports off this printer, and he needs something that is really, really FAST. Print quality is not at all a consideration. Thanks Will

Well, I can name couple of manufacturers who make these things.... 1) Output Technology Corp (OTC) fast stuff indeed! 2) Dataproducts (higher quality and more expensive, often private labeled my another manufacturer.) A good buy used...look in "Computer Hot Line" newsletter for many brokers seeling these. These printers were commonly used with minicomputers. 3) Okidata Pacemark series There are several others like 2) (Facit and TEC come to mind...) We have a Dataproducts M200 we bought used for $150 a couple years ago and it just runs and runs and runs.... Generally speaking, you don't find the really fast printers in the computer stores...too expensive. The OTC units seem to be fairly well distributed...try Midwest Micro Perpherials if all else fails... Macy M. The old Printronix's used to use 1 pin for every 6 dots, and printed bidirectionally, the one we have is *ancient* and is still damn fast even now. Heaven knows what a new one would be like. But before you sink your money into a 'really, really FAST' printer, make sure you have a 'really, really FAST' comms port - See some earlier grumbles in this newsgroup. Dave E.

Browse the magazine ads and computer stores.
Check out the high end printers. They are color, 24 pin, wide carriage
which he may or not need, but in addition they are fast.
He needs a heavy one, like the Epson LQ2550, for high speed and
multiple forms, or it will wear out.
Also consider whether the application software supports the printer
directly. Software conversion is sometimes slower than printing.
