I need recommendations for a page layout (desktop publishing) package and fax modem that can work together to take images scanned on a fax machine and sent to the fax modem, edit them and combine them with text, and print them back on a fax machine via the fax modem. Here's what I'm up to . . . I'm trying to cobble together a system for my Dad to use in preparing his antenna catalog. At present, he uses First Publisher to do all the lettering and prints it on a dot matrix printer. Then he manually pastes in all the pictures. He has a hand-held scanner, but gets very poor results when he tries to scan an antenna picture and print it on his dot matrix printer. Text quality with this set up is good enough for him. He's considering buying a flatbed scanner and a laser printer, but he already owns a fax machine and I'm wondering if a fax modem and some software might give him good results for a lot less cost. I've run sample pages from his last year's catalog thru his fax machine in "fine" copy mode and the results are good. I'm now looking for recommendations for a fax modem and publishing software that could work together using the fax machine he already owns as a 200 DPI scanner and printer. I don't normally read this news group, so I'd appreciate replies by E-mail or phone. If I get many inquiries for a summary of the responses I get, I'll post one here.
