[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Windows Crashing after PCtools

rick@jpusa1.UUCP (Rick Mills) (12/29/89)

	I have a 10mhz 286 with 1 meg of mem (512/512) and just
purchased Windows/286 a week and a half ago. I have the Paradise
16+ and a Nec 3D for video, and the MS bus mouse.
	Here's the problem - If I run PC-Tools deluxe (5.5) or
Catdisk (A disk catalogger) OUTSIDE of windows, and then attempt to
run windows sometime thereafter, it crashes the machine and completely
corrupts windows to the point I have to reinstall it. Anybody have
similar problems? A call to Microsoft was little help - they told me
that they are not responsible for misbehaved programs that manipulate the
stack and the only solution was to always reboot the machine before
running windows.
If anyone has had this problem, how have you implemented a
solution? I guess my next step is to sum all the files and compare them
after a crash to see which one(s) get corrupted - to make reinstallation
a little quicker....
	Any comments?
