Someone asked about John Irving's involvement in making "The World According to Garp," because the movie was so true to the book. I don't know if Irving was involved in writing the screenplay, but I do know he was involved in a different sense. In the scene where the college-age Garp is in a wrestling match (and keeps getting distracted by the coach's daughter, who was a spectator), the referee was played by John Irving.
