There's an article in the latest PC Week that asserts that Microsoft Word users can upgrade to Word For Windows for $150 through March 31st. Has anyone received an upgrade notice? I'm a registered user of Microsoft Word, and I've heard nothing -- and I would very much like to buy it before the year end, for tax reasons. -- Clayton E. I have not received any notification. I did for the 4.0 to 5.0 transition, so I assume that they know where I am.

I called Microsoft this week and they told me the notices would go out after the first of the year. Does anybody else think that an "upgrade" price of $150 is ridiculous, especially so soon after the $75 4.0 to 5.0 upgrade? Microsoft's explanation to me was that Word for Windows is essentially a new product, therefore the upgrade is very expensive. They seem to ignore the money I spent on 4.0 and Pageview (including the need for Windows 2.1 to get reasonable functionality) and the money I spent to go to 5.0. I am using the most current version of MS Word and the most current version of Windows/286, yet they want me to pay $150 to get Word for Windows that will supposedly give me the best functionality from MS Word and MS Windows. I can hardly wait to see if Windows 3.0 is also "essentially a new product", with its own astronomical upgrade cost. Bruce Carlson
