I agree that Garp is a fine film with much 'human-ness' to it. My wife and I noticed two things. We both read half of the book and stopped, bored or ??, but loved the film. And she noticed that all the women in the story were shown in a poor light; his anti-sexual mother, the Ellen Jameson (sp) cult, hookers, etc. EXCEPT Garp's transsexual friend, who was very real, empathetic, and well adjusted. To take part of that back, I liked his wife and she seemed well portrayed. Still, we decided Irving was a mysogynist. Bob Tidd ucbvax!g:inp
