[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Sperry Bios problem

emmo@moncam.co.uk (Dave Emmerson) (01/04/90)

Uurgh! I've got a messy one here.
Does anyone out there have any idea how to get at the CMOS setup in a
Sperry 3126? We inherited this beast without any manuals, and now the
hard disk has gone sick. I'm trying to install a NDR1140 (=MAX1140)
and WD1006 controller. Disk Manager(R) lets me Initialise and Partition
it OK, but it won't boot cos the Sperry's bios says its still the
original drive, therefore it must be sick.
I can boot from floppy, and use any but the first partition. If there was
a setup programme, it went west with the old drive, it was never backed up,
there was never anything vital on it - or so we thought!
The specs are : 115Mb, 918 Cyls, 15 heads, No precompensation. I think
Sperry have their own Drive table, so other machine's drive type numbers
aren't likely to be correct.

Any and all help appreciated, either here or by email

Thanks,

Dave E.

e-mail for emmo@moncam.co.uk gets returned - so am posting here:

The Sperry T-3126 is a PC/IT. After removing the cover, locate a
small lithium battery. The battery should have a cable going to a
plug. Disconnect the plug, then short out the terminals that are
NOT going to the battery, which will erase the system configuration
- then reconnect the battery cable and run the set-up software.
