I recently got a Seagate ST11R hard disk controller and a Seagate ST238R hard disk. (Thier RLL paired-storage solution.) I have been able to set the system up so that it can boot DOS from the floppy (A:) or hard disk (C:), but when I try to boot a forign diskette (eg. Marble Madness, MINIX) from the A: drive, I get a "disk boot failure. press any key to retry." error message. I am assuming that the BIOS on the controller is taking over the whole boot process, and does not know how to handle a bootstrap to a system other than DOS. Is there ANYONE out there who has simmilar problems? When I take the controller and C: drive out of the system, the floppies all boot fine, so I know they are okay. Even if you have this controller (ST11R) please reply, and let me know what kinds of problems (if any) you have had. The real kicker is that the place I bought it from said they would run diagnostics on it, and if it is broke, they will replace it, but if thier diagnostics say it is okay, they will charge me $25! I don't want to pay the $25 if the controller was not DESIGNED to work with other bootable systems in the first place! Please HELP! P.S. I could use the phone number and/or email address (if any) of Seagate. -- +-------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+ | Ed Federmeyer | Internet: ed@iitMax.iit.edu | | "Unauthorized access is | Bitnet: sysed@iitVax | | strictly unauthorized." | Office: (312) 567-5981 | +-------------------------------------+--------------------------------------+
