[PININ' FOR THE FJORDS?????] > The guy in Yes and Flash is Peter Banks, Tonys brother. Peter plays guitar, > Tony plays keyboards. [WARNING: The entire story which follows is hopelessly false. It was written some time ago to alleviate the confusion in net.music about Tony Banks, Peter Banks, and Tony Kaye, none of whom are related. Actually, the only parts of the story that aren't true are the parts about them getting married and exchanging names.] All right. Now the truth can be told about Tony Kaye, Peter Banks, and Tony Banks (hopefully for the last time). Peter Banks and Tony Kaye were founder members of Yes, playing guitar and keyboards. In an unusual move, they left the group (PB in 1969, TK in 1970), and got married, taking each other's names. Peter Kaye was never heard from again, but Tony Banks decided to join Genesis, which he was already a member of. Peter Kaye, who was never heard from again, changed his name back to Peter Banks and formed Flash. Tony Kaye, realizing that 1) he and Peter were never married and that 2) he was never Tony Banks (of Genesis), may or may not have worked with Flash (to be close to his non-ex-husband??) but now has rejoined his old mates Chris Squire and Alan White (even though AW was never in Yes at the same time as TK) to form Cinema, a band that has more right to call itself Yes than any other band since Yes, which in the end had no right to call itself Yes at all. [NOTE: Since the time when I originally wrote this "family tree" for the Bankses and the Kayes, Jon Anderson has joined Cinema and renamed it Yes, much to the chagrin of Steve Howe who replaced Peter Banks in Yes and is constantly getting compared to Eddie Van Halen by very confused people.] (Got it?) Tony Banks, very confused about always being confused (with Tony Kaye), continued to work with Genesis even though he was never related to Peter Banks or Tony Kaye or Anthony Phillips (if you don't know, don't ask!). -- Never ASSUME, because when you ASSUME, you make an ASS out of U and ME...
