I have a compaq portable 286 in the office, and it has a problem with the screen. It only happens within the first 10-15 minutes of each boot. If I boot dos, it stays in monochrome mode and has no probs, but when I boot xenix, (it switches to cga mode) it "indents" text about 20 characters, and has a big top-margin as well. After a while, (that 10-15 mins) it starts to show the same text in two places, one where it has indented it and the other where it should be. It takes about 5minutes for this to stop, and when it does, the text is in the right place and everything is fine. The question I have is: Could it be some worn components? or is there an easy fix for it? Some way to track down the problem further? It's just annoying after a while to have to wait for it to fix itself. BTW: it also doesn't keep track of time anymore when it's off, where is the battery, and how easy is it to replace? Thanks for any info ...
