[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Borland's Quattro Pro

rogerb@isc-br.ISCS.COM (Roger Bailey) (12/28/89)

Hello,

I have a couple of questions concerning Borland's Quattro Pro.

1) Is it really true that I can be working in Quattro, and use my DBASE
and LOTUS files as is (i.e. I don't have to open them)?

2) If I am plotting data from Quattro cells on a graph, and I have some
empty cells, will Quattro interpolate the points that would have been
present in the empty cells for the graph?

Thank-you. Email me, and I will summarize.

Roger

Don't laugh, but has anyone tried Qpro on an XT w/CGA? I'm considering
ordering, but want to know if it's usable. Any comments?

I'm using QPRO on a Z-151 (4.77Mhz, 720K+) with CGA and a 30M RLL disk (slow).
I upgraded from QUATTRO a month or so ago. I've had no problems and have found
the new version quite useful. The VROOM (sp?) does allow me to load larger
spreadsheets than the old version.

The only drawback for me is that the new QPRO only uses high-res CGA (b+w)
graphics. This makes my old 3-color line graphs almost impossible to use.
I have two work-arounds:

	1) Use the old version of Quattro to do the plots by having QPRO
generate a backwards-compatible file (e.g., .WKQ or .WKZ). This
is fine if you don't use any of the "fancy" QPRO features (like
	   linked spreadsheets).

	2) Convert the line graphs to bar or area graphs if possible. While
perhaps not the most appropriate style, the bar graphs have allowed
me to keep using my old CGA machine.
