I have been having problems with a new Packard Bell Legend V 80286 clone and a (new) MicroSoft mouse [the PS/2 model, which plugs into a PS/2 DIN mouse port on the back of the PB). The problem is that 9 times out of 10, when you boot the machine COLD (after a night off), the MS Mouse drive does not recognize that the mouse is plugged in (to the PS/2 DIN port). The only sure way to get the mouse recognized is to pull it out of the DIN, re-insert it, and reboot the machine. After writing a letter to PB and two weeks of phone-tag, they are now telling me that the MS mouse does not work with this model and that the only mouse to run is the Logitech PS/2 mouse with mouse driver V4.01. This tech support person even said the MS mouse could "fry your motherboard". I basically told him I thought they were "off base", especially since the Microsoft mouse was the industry standard mouse, that I was aware of several programs that wouldn't work with the logitech combo, and that this was a DIN mouse not a BUS mouse. I asked for the manager and am waiting for a "Senior" tech to call me back (ya...) to explain why MS is full of do-do. [The goat of the whole story is that the only reason I bought the MS PS/2 mouse was because no-one has the Logitech PS/2 mouse locally available?!] Any way, anybody have any opinions or suggestions or what to trade 8-) ? -- Marc Ries ries@venice.sedd.trw.com (ARPA) somewhere!trwind!venice!ries (UUCP) #include <std.disclaimer>
