Hello, I am Scott Grabowski. I am a senior at Kenston High School. I spent 6 weeks this summer at Carmegie Mellon University this summer to take part in their pre-college program. While there, I spent extensive time on Arpanet and Internet 'talking' with various schools. Since my chosen field is physics, with a possible double major in either matematics or computer science, I was fascinated with the national network. Anyway, I was disappointed when I returned back home because there was no way I could use the network any more. That was, until I found the CWRU phone number (368-3923). I was very excited about being able to talk to CMU and other schoold and look around the Case system as well. Well, none of the case file servers or Vaxstations that I have found allow 'anonymous' or 'guest' login names. By experimentation, I found 'northgate.cwru.edu' and 'southgate.cwru.edu' but they won't allow anonymous usage either. So I asked around and Dave Chatfield suggested that I ask you about a possible guest access account on the system. So I am. I don't really want anything too fancy, what I would really like is a user directory (/usr/...) and (if possible) access to the national network (so I could log back on CMU and use my account on there as well). Also, is it possible to use FTP with an IBM XT over a phone line?
