[net.movies] Amusing aside about a Classic

ARPAVAX:mo (11/05/82)

A local station here in the Bay area just ran the
Tracy/Hepburn classic "Desk Set". For those that don't remember,
it revolves around installing an "electronic brain" in the research
department of a large (radio?) network. The amusing aside is
the writer credits: one William Marchant. For those that don't
see the humor, (or weren't around then) the Merchant calculator was the
canonical scientific calculating device before the commercial availability
of computers. The coincidence of the names was quite amusing to me.
