ARRITT@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu (What a waste it is to lose one's mind.) (01/16/90)
I finally managed to get a 386 pc, so that I could (hopefully) do multi-tasking. Unfortunately I've been having a great deal of trouble with setting up my programs to run under Windows. The manual is not particularly well organized and contains numerous omissions and factual errors; e.g. it will tell you to enter a "-1" for desired memory, but the PIF editor doesn't like negative numbers. My request: Can anyone recommend a good reference for using Windows-386? All I want to do is to multi-task what Microsoft calls "standard applications". I don't need information on "paint" programs or any of the other junk that comes bundled with Windows. Also I don't intend to program for the Windows environment specifically. I just want to be able to run some time-consuming things in the background while I do other stuff. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks! ________________________________________________________________________ Ray Arritt | Dept. of Physics and Astronomy | Univ. of Kansas | Lawrence, KS 66045 | arritt@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu | arritt@ukanvax.bitnet |
