I do not expect much from 14", 1024X768 VGA monitor for an X window workstation. But is it O.K. ? Is it worth while ? How slow is it ? or How fast is it ? There are many VGA cards supporting 1024X768. Can all those cards be used for X window system ? Which VGA cards does ESIX support for X-window ? If VGA monitors are worth while, what are the tips to buy them ? I would appreciate if someone who has the VGA-Xwindow experiences could send me some valuable informations. Thanks, Woochang Jin wjin@cs.purdue.edu

Hi, I use the MaxLogic 677 VGA controller and a Mitsubisha Diamond Scan monitor with ESIX under X using the Video/7 VGA 800x600 driver. At 14", this is about as fine as you can go and still read the screen. Graphics and the twm manager are usable and the display speed (in a 25MHz system) is quite acceptable. If you're in need of 1024x768, I would highly recommend the Everex Ultragraphics with an NEC 4D monitor ($$$$$, though). Tim Jones ...!uunet!pcgbase!amsdev!timj or timj@amsdev.UUCP

We have all but one of our PS/2s running AIX 1.1, with X windows and all but one use an 8514/A card/display. It is quite acceptable, but it seems to be slower than a color sun 386i running Sun OS. Just thought I would comment. +-----------------+---------------------------+-----------------------------+ | Bill Poitras | Polygen Corporation | {princeton mit-eddie | | (bill) | Waltham, MA USA | bu sunne}!polygen!bill | | | | bill@polygen.com | +-----------------+---------------------------+-----------------------------+

What about just simple EGA or Even Herc?!? Is there any software available that'll let ME use X Windows? [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] [] Stephen M.
