We have a printer which we believe is a Diablo 620 (from the name plate) which WANG has slapped their name on. We want to hook it up to a PS/2 30/286 as a serial printer. Two questions come up. 1) Is the PS/2 30/286 25-pin serial port COM1 or COM2? 2) Does the Diablo 620 need a standard Rs-232 serial cable, or are some pins different, requiring a different cable? The printer may have "Diablo" on the back panel or inside the case (the Xerox does). > Two questions come up. > > 1) Is the PS/2 30/286 25-pin serial port COM1 or COM2? I'm don't know what you mean by a "standard RS-232 serial cable", but you can get the computer and printer to communicate by using a null-modem cable. Any decent cable supplier should have one availble or be able to make one very quickly. If you want to make one yourself look in computer books for diagrams or see message 47524 in this group for a schematic. > Thanks for your help. You're welcome. -- Richard L. If you mean my recent posting with the diagram, the message ID is <1990Jan20.125629.9392@druid.uucp>. In any case here is the diagram from that posting: 1 --- 1 2 --- 3 3 --- 2 4 --- 5 5 --- 4 6 --- 20 20 --- 6 7 --- 7 In some cases you may have to tie 6 & 8 on the same end together as well. -- D'Arcy J.M.
