[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Ventura and FAX output????

jcb@loral.UUCP (Jay Bowden) (01/20/90)

Hello! Anyone know if there is such a thing as a DRIVER for
ventura that can convert directly to a FAX format (like
The Complete PC CFAX format)?

Anyone know what might be involved in trying to do this,
if one was to think that might be possible?

Thanks for any info!

- Jay

With my LaserMaster setup, I can capture the output of a screen in
Ventura as a .PCX file. This can then be converted with HiJaaK's convert
program to a FAX format file.

I think that you could also grab the Ventura screen with HotShot,
another screen grabber utiltiy, and that would let you do the same
thing. Either way, you will have to go through a couple of conversion
steps to make a DPT fax output, but I think at this time there is no
DIRECT method to output a fax file from Ventura.

I hope this helps.

I tried to send you the following message by e-mail, but it bounced
(host unknown).

GammaLink and QMS have jointly developed a product called GammaScript that
is used to convert PostScript files generated by desktop-publishing programs,
such as Ventura Publisher, into raster images that can be transmitted via
a GammaFax board from GammaLink. For more information, contact:

    GammaLink, Inc.
    2452 Embarcadero Way
    Palo Alto, CA 94303
    Tel. 415 856-7421
    Fax. 415 494-7042

They can send you a sample fax. You will see that the quality of a computer-
generated fax image is much better than the quality of a scanned image.

My company, QMS, has a product called UltraScript PC that can convert
PostScript to either TIFF or PCX files at the "fine" fax resolution of
203x192 dpi. Most fax products for PCs accept one of these two formats.
